It is 6:30 AM Saturday, October 17th and I just finished my strength training workout. People may question why I am working out at 6:30 in the morning on a Saturday. Don’t you even sleep in? First, I understand the importance of sticking to a sleep schedule so I am up by 5:00 AM every day. Second, I know I have a busy day and wanted to get my workout in.
Today would have been the Master’s Race. Like many events it has been cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. It hasn’t been re-scheduled but when it is I want to be ready. If I slack off now all the previous year’s training would be wasted.
Attitude is everything. Did you hear what Dac Prescott said the other day? If you aren’t familiar with whom Dac is he is the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. He was on his way to having the best season of his already great career. No, I am not a Dallas Cowboys or Dac . But, I do admire his attitude.
Last Sunday, Dac suffered a season ending compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. It was gruesome to watch. His foot was literally pointing the wrong direction. As they carried Dac off the field he was waving to his fellow teammates and fans as tears rolled down his cheeks.
Dac could have been crying for a few reasons. One his ankle really, really hurt. Another is he was playing on a franchise tag which means he does not have a contract for the upcoming season. He was betting on his performance this year to have the opportunity to signing a huge multi-year deal worth up to 100 million dollars. This injury may have cost him that opportunity.
This is part of what Dac had to say as he lay in the hospital getting ready to see his ankle for the first time after surgery. “This little adversity is just going to be another little chapter in the book. I’m excited to move forward and write it”.
“Excited to move forward”, what a fantastic attitude! He could have been feeling sorry for himself, possible losing the opportunity to make life changing money. No he is staying positive. I admire him for that.
It’s this attitude that makes Dac great. He has tremendous attitude and heart. These amongst may other traits which lead to his success.
I could be sulking or slacking off because the race was cancelled. No way! I will use these same traits to fuel my success in the race and in all aspects of life.
